Why Choose the Mobella Star Key?
Engineered by Southco (Mobella series) for unmatched security, this star key replaces lost or worn keys without full latch overhaul. The six-pin tumbler system provides robust protection for valuables in harsh saltwater conditions, making it essential for boat owners and RV users. Simplified to 53mm "South" orientation for easier ordering – just match the last three digits of your code. A direct OEM fit for discontinued Southco variations, ensuring reliability on the water.
How to Identify & Order Your Star Key
- Locate Code: Stamped on inside latch handle (e.g., engraved in finger pull as "S53 231") or back of lock cylinder
- Check Alternatives: Look for small metal tag on original key or in boat owner's packet
- Match Visuals: Use product images: #2 for handle codes, #3 for lock matching, #4 for cylinder back
- Pro Tip: Codes ending in same 3 numbers (e.g., S53 237 = W53 237) are fully interchangeable
Southco has discontinued the majority of the key variations, because in reality, many of the variations were redundant.
First: there used to be a 53mm and a 40mm length. Same key, different length shaft. Now only the 53mm is offered
Second: North, South, East, and West keys were actually the same key, but the gray head was glued on the shaft in a different orientation. Now only "South" is available. So a S53 237 key is the same as a W53 237 or east or north. Also the same as a S40 237. All that matters is the last 3 numbers. Please continue to order based on your actual number. As the different variations run out of stock we will begin shipping only the "South" versions.
You will need to know the key number. Your latch should have a key number stamped on the inside handle (see next paragraph for a description on where to find your key code information). These keys do not have a number stamped in them. There should be a small metal tag attached to the key or in your owners packet for your boat.
If you are not sure of the key number look at picture number # 2 or picture number # 3 to match up the lock version you have. If you lock is like picture # 2, then look on the inside handle at the information engraved in the finger pull. It will read like a “S53 231” format (your number and letter will be different possibly). That will be your key number.
If your lock cylinder (this is where the key would insert into) is like picture # 4, then you will need to gain access to the back side of the lock cylinder itself and your key code will be stamped into the lock cylinder itself. It will read like a “S53 231” format (your number and letter will be different possibly), that will be your key number.
